The Quest to Capture Personal Meaning in Psychology
AbstractIn this literature review the construct of personal meaning is explored through the disciplines of psychology, theology, and philosophy. Emphasis is placed on the translation of meaning theory into the research of personal meaning. The connections between meaning and religion and spirituality are explored. Several meaning measurements and their shortcomings are reviewed; narrative analysis is offered as a contemporary advancement in meaning research.
